Abstract

This contribution examines A. Traina’s translations of Seneca’s tragedies (Medea and Phaedra in particular) from a perspective that differs from the usual contrastive analysis, which compares different translators of the same text. In fact, the aim of this study is to establish a comparison between Traina the translator and Traina the scholar. Drawing upon specific features that emerge from Traina’s studies on Seneca and on Latin language and literature, the analysis demonstrates how the scholar employed translation as a means of disseminating the findings of his research to a broader audience (both of spectators and readers).
